On Saturday, October 13th, WAI San Diego hosted another successful Girls in Aviation Day! This year marked the 4th anniversary of GIAD, and WAI reported that there were a total of 15,000 attendees, girls age 8-17, around the world. Some 103 chapters and corporate members planned 98 events in 14 countries including 36 states in the U.S.

The 2018 WAI San Diego event was held at the San Diego International Airport (KSAN). The day started with a  very impressive panel including Angela Shafer Payne, Vice President of Planning and Operations at KSAN; Linda Hapgood, Director of Supply Chain Operations for Boeing Global Services; Air Force Lt Colonel Amy Gangolea; and our very own 1Lt Paris Krula, Air Force Aircraft Maintenance Officer!

The San Diego Regional Airport Authority provided our attendees a private tour of the KSAN tarmac. The Air Force team from March Air Reserve Base gave the girls a tour of the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft which was flown in just for our event! Lunch was provided by Piedmont Airlines at the airport's USO garden, with two guests from the Southwest Airlines crew who later hosted a behind-the-scenes tour of Southwest Airlines Operations and ground handling.

Our chapter hosted 38 wonderful girls from our community with various backgrounds and aspirations in aviation. Each attendee received a WAI Girls in Aviation day T-shirt and several goodie bags full of aviation-related items donated by our sponsors. Our event's success is credited to our amazing volunteer chapter members and our event sponsors, shown below.

Many Thanks to our GIAD18 Sponsors!
