We are the San Diego Chapter of Women in Aviation International (WAI), a nonprofit 501c3 organization dedicated to providing networking, education, mentoring and scholarship opportunities for women who are striving for challenging and fulfilling careers in the aviation and aerospace industries.
Our San Diego chapter has over 70 members including private, charter, corporate, airline and military pilots; student pilots and flight instructors; aerospace engineers; airport managers and General Aviation business staff; flight attendants; air traffic controllers; and aviation enthusiasts. We focus on networking, career development and mentoring, fun events and tours, and are huge supporters of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).
Our 4th annual Girls in Aviation Day was held on October 13, 2018 at the San Diego International Airport. Click on the "Girls in Aviation Day" tab to see more!
Shanna Ream began her aviation career as the first female Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Commander in the U.S. Marine Corps. She did two tours in Afghanistan flying the Shadow and ScanEagle UAVs and will soon be transitioning to the California Air National Guard. Shanna obtained her private pilot’s license at Palomar Airport with Pacific Coast Flyers. She is completing an MS in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is also working towards IFR and commercial ratings with hopes of obtaining her CFII.
WAI San Diego will have a booth at the 15th Annual African Culture Fest, with this year's theme being
"Women, Aviation & S.T.E.A.M."
