We are the San Diego Chapter of Women in Aviation International (WAI), a nonprofit 501c(3) organization dedicated to providing networking, education, mentoring and scholarship opportunities for women who are striving for challenging and fulfilling careers in the aviation and aerospace industries.

Our San Diego chapter has over 70 members including private, charter, corporate, airline and military pilots; student pilots and flight instructors; aerospace engineers; airport managers and General Aviation business staff; flight attendants; air traffic controllers; and aviation enthusiasts. We focus on networking, career development and mentoring, fun events and tours, and are huge supporters of S.T.E.M (science, technology, engineering and math).

At our 2016 annual Girls in Aviation Day, girls were introduced to some of the many possibilities available in a career in aviation. The event at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, as part of their annual Air Show, included an exclusive “meet and greet” with the Blue Angels pilots and the chance to see one of the F/A-18 Hornet jets up close.

Lurdes (Lulu) Reynoso has been a member of WAISD for two years and is one of our top volunteers. Her goal is to help recruit people of all ages to be part of aviation, to have aviation careers, and to be a voice for aviation. Lulu said, “since I joined the group I have met great, sincere, beautiful people that I see as part of my family”. Lulu has been attracted to aviation since childhood but unable to follow it as a career. “I feel that I can help others achieve their dreams and in the process, stay connected to mine”.
